Overview of KTA 3601 Guidelines

KTA 3601 is a safety standard issued by the German Nuclear Safety Standards Commission
(Kerntechnischer Ausschuss, KTA) that specifies requirements for ventilation systems in nuclear
power plants. It is part of the broader KTA 3600 series, which addresses various safety-related
systems and processes in nuclear installations.

Purpose and Scope:

The main purpose of KTA 3601 is to define safety-related requirements for ventilation systems to
ensure protection against hazards arising from the construction and operation of nuclear plants, in
accordance with the latest scientific and technological standards.

It supports compliance with protective goals outlined in the Atomic Energy Act (AtG), the Radiation
Protection Act (StrlSchG), and the Radiation Protection Ordinance (StrlSchV), as well as more
detailed safety requirements for nuclear power plants (SiAnf).

The standard applies to all facilities and systems involved in the containment, handling, and
controlled discharge of radioactive substances within nuclear power plants.
